WORK AND PHYSICALITY
Mark Twight is an elite mountain climber, writer, and the founder of Gym Jones, a private facility where they train elite athletes. If you've ever wondered how the entire cast of the movie "The 300" got into incredible shape, Mark was behind it. The gym had no mirrors. They didn't value the aesthetic appearance above ability and capability. They didn't train models, they trained with purpose. As he put it, "We value horsepower ahead of appearance -- NOT VICE-VERSA.”
He goes on to explain that doing hard things, things that others cant, things that require maximum physical or intellectual effort, is a means of self discovery.
"IF THE OUTCOME WERE CERTAIN, THE EFFORT WOULD MEAN NOTHING, AND NO IMPORTANT QUESTIONS WOULD BE ANSWERED IN THE TRYING"
It may be expensive, difficult, painful, miserable, time consuming, humiliating, but in the end you’ve done what other’s can’t. That’s what makes it worthwhile.
If it is there, and can be done, why not do it?
Easy things aren’t valuable. If you're in a quest for self actualization, find something that is difficult to achieve, and conquer it.
